Sony planning new PS3 Box art with PS3 Slim Announcement?

There is a new PlayStation 3 box art that is floating around with a significant change. Instead of the PlayStation 3 Spider-Man font on the left side of the box, it has now been moved to the top again, like the PS2′s box art. With the recent leaked images of the supposed PS3 Slim and it’s new font, it looks like they’ve got rid of the Spider-Man font to coincide with the PS3 Slim.

The new box art is much neater/cleaner than the old PS3 box art (shown below). The old one had text and information all over the place. On the left there would be the PlayStation 3 Logo and on the top there would be the new “Only On PlayStation” text, where the PlayStation had a different font than the PS3 font, and the PlayStation Network logo to show there is online play. When compared to the new one, all the information is on top for you to read.

When will we see the change? Who knows, but let’s hope it is announced during GamesCom ton Tuesday August 18th, this week, with the PS3 Slim by it’s side. I personally would welcome the change, what do you think?

    In case all the “journalists” haven’t noticed… the PLAYSTATION 3 at the top of the box instead of on the side STILL uses the SPIDERMAN font… Am I seriously the only who has noticed it?

    Yes it is still there, but it was always there. In the new one, they completely removed it from the side. So instead of there being 2 “PlayStation 3″ logo’s, there is only one.

    Take a look at that case compared to the new one. The PlayStation 3 logo is up there also on the old one.

    I would just like to say i HATE when these little backstreet websites no one knows about makes up silly articles like this just so they gain a bit of traffic….

    Do you catch my drift? Its really sad and obvious what your doing Nima. Go and get a job in a propper gamesite like GT or IGN or Gamespot etc

    oh and its no point in replying because i’ll have no need to come back to this site.

    I am comparing the two, because the PS3 Slim will be announced soon with all the information that has been given from both retailers and other sources. With this change it might mean that because of the PS3 Slim it was changed.

    The new boxart might have PAL ratings, but that does not mean that it will be only used in PAL regions.

    If this is in fact true, I think it is good. It’s a lot more practical from a marketting standpoint. There is already the PlayStation 3 logo at the top of the box (really why do we need the PlayStation 3 logo repeated?) so by removing the side bar will provide slightly more cover artwork space and the case looks less “busy”. Plus, it can also be construed as an effort by Sony to “freshen up” the PlayStation 3 brand. It subconciously plants the idea of a PS3 relaunch and PlayStation 3 being new and improved. :)

    The new design packshot, I think you’ll find, is European. I haven’t seen any European or otherwise boxes which look like that, but isn’t it possible that Sony are just altering the European design a bit? The DS boxes in Europe are much different looking than the States one.

    That’s not the official box art for eyepet. It is obviously another hoax. I know Wikipedia is not very reliable but they have what looks like the Authentic boxart for eyepet
